STYLE: Pinot Gris

Back to Styles List

Pinot Gris produces fruit that varies in color (even in the same cluster) but is typically brownish pink. Wines made from this variety tend to be full-bodied, complex, with a smokey and pungent aroma that is more subtle and not at all over-powering. Pinot Gris is grown throughout Europe with large concentrations in Alsace and also in Italy and Germany. In the United States, Oregon has had great success with Pinto Gris.

Pinot Gris is a lighter colored mutation of Pinot Noir that probably originated in the Alsace region of France.
