Overall Impression
Mourvèdre has small, thick skinned berries that produces wines with high alcohol content and high tannins. This variety has been used to make wine that is blended and valued for the structure that it provides. Mourvèdre is the most important grape in Bandol, a blend from Provence. Flavors and aromas often described as animal and blackberry.

History
Most likely Spanish in origin and known in Spain as Monastrell and in the Australia and the U.S. as Mataro. Mourvèdre needs considerable heat to fully ripen.
