Yeast Style Guide

STYLE: Petit Verdot

Back to Styles List

This black grape variety ripens later than Cabernet Sauvignon and when fully ripe produces very rich and tannic wines that can be aged for long periods. This is a difficult grape to ripen but can be a tremendous addition to Bordeaux style blends or Meritage. Petit Verdot has very thick skins and is quite resistant to rot.

Origin:
Petit Verdot is native to Bordeaux but is not planted to any great extent there.

Tips:
Blend with varieties that need structure.

Wyeast Strains:
   4028 - Red (formerly Chateau Red™)
   4244 - Italian Red (formerly Chianti™)
   4267 - Summationa Red (formerly Bordeaux™)
