Vodka

Vodka

Overall Impression:

Originating in Poland, Russia, and Sweden, vodka is a distilled spirit traditionally made from cereal grains. Other fermentable including potatoes, molasses, fruits, and honey have become more recent substitutes. One of vodka’s distinct features is that it lacks a distinct taste; though worldwide production reveals regional character, mouthfeel, and nuance between brands and methods. A common property of producing the spirit in the US and Europe is the extensive use of filtration either during distillation or afterward where off-flavor causing impurities are removed, producing a very ‘clean’ profile. However, traditional vodka production often prefers accurate distillation and minimal filtration to preserve the unique characteristics.
